Qatar Academy Doha celebrates 25 years

First Qatar Foundation school to open in Education City in 1996

Qatar Academy Doha is celebrating a milestone achievement today: 25 years of excellence. As Qatar Foundation’s first school, it has served as a vital building block in its Pre-University Education ecosystem, which today comprises 13 schools and two academic institutes.

Sara Behzad, who was part of Qatar Academy Doha’s (QAD) first graduating class, says: “I am thrilled to see how much the Qatar foundation ecosystem has grown over the last 25 years. Studying at QAD was an experience in itself for me, as – at the time – it was a unique and innovative educational environment for the Qatari society.

“Although it has been more than 20 years since my graduation, I still remember how QAD provided me with an unrivaled educational experience which has provided me with great education and a number of my classmates are now great leaders in a variety of professions,” says Behzad.

“QAD is like a second home for me because I have my five children enrolled there. It blends education, knowledge, and inclusiveness, which is the ideal environment for my children to grow up in.

“As a QAD graduate, the school has made it easy for me to make the choices I make for my children's education by allowing me to choose it as their school again and take advantage of the unique possibilities afforded by Qatar Foundation," she added.

Explaining how sending her children to QAD was an easy choice, as it affords so many unique opportunities to its students, BehZad says that a distinguishing feature of the school is its constant and streamlined communication – with students, parents, and alumni.

Khalifa Hamad Al Thani is a current QAD student who will graduate in 2022. “My journey at the school began three years ago,” he said. “Without a doubt, it is because of QAD that I have become a student that is capable of handling whatever challenges life sends my way.

According to Al-Thani, QAD strives for its students to succeed in all aspects of their lives –personally, professionally, and academically. “At QAD, we follow the International Baccalaureate system, which helps build skills that can be utilized at university and beyond, allowing me to follow my aspirations.”

On his plans for after graduation, Al Thani explains how studying at a QF school has created new and exciting opportunities for him, and he hopes to practice medicine in the future.

Concluding, Al-Thani said: “The school was established 25 years ago, and the legacy it is trying to leave, of providing a world-class education to enable future generations to become independent citizens, remains its overarching goal.

“I hope that its students – current and new – embrace all that QAD has to offer, from academic opportunities to extra-curricular activities, so that they can help make the world a better place.”
